There is an organized, formal teaching curriculum that includes a series of lectures, conferences, and seminars to complement the patient-based clinical training in infectious diseases. Fellows are active participants in these conferences. All the faculty, as well as resident and students rotating on Infectious Diseases or the Immunocompromised Host services, attend these conferences.

Weekly Wednesday Noon Conference (12:00 PM-1:00 PM)

Section-wide conference that covers a variety of topics.  Two conferences a month will be clinical case-based discussions presented by fellows to the Section centered on interesting cases or diagnostic dilemmas.  The remaining conferences each month will cover key didactics (Microbiology, Pharmacotherapy, Infection Control & Stewardship) as well as fellows’ Research in Progress (RIP) and Quality Improvement (QI) talks.

Weekly Thursday Joint Case Conference (4:00 PM-5:00 PM)

Inter-hospital Clinical Case Conference with Adult Infectious Disease and Pediatric Infectious Disease, Videoconferencing with the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) fellowship program. A fellow from each institution will present a case for the conference. Discussion will involve faculty and fellows from both fellowship programs.

Weekly Friday Morning Fellow Conference (8:00 AM-9:00 AM)

Inter-hospital (UChicago, UIC, Loyola) didactic curriculum for fellows which repeats every 2 years.  Expert faculty provide lectures which are integrated with core ID board review topics and questions.
